Introduction to Etching / Intaglio - Workshop

€195.00

Hands-on Introduction to Intaglio/Etching Printmaking Learn to create your own prints using traditional and experimental techniques

This workshop brings together my passion for traditional etching and engraving with the more experimental approaches I have developed over the years through working with mentors, friends, and colleagues.

Designed for beginners as well as those with some prior experience, the course offers a comprehensive introduction to line etching and its many possibilities. Together, we will work through the full process: preparing a zinc plate, developing a design suited to etching, applying and working with hard grounds, and gaining foundational printing experience.

The workshop is best suited to participants with some background in drawing or image-making (including photography, collage, or similar practices) and a genuine interest in process and experimentation.

Course Structure

The Introduction to Etching is divided into two sessions:

Session 1 — Wednesday evening, 16:30–21:00: Plate preparation, applying hard ground, designing, and etching

Session 2 — Saturday morning, 10:00–14:30 (or Wednesday evening): Etching final details and printing

A follow-up course is available for those who wish to continue, focusing on the tonal techniques of etching (aquatint).
