This July and August I am offering a collection of 5 Printmaking sessions. Each with a unique emphasis on a traditional printmaking technique or a more experimental approach.

As we all want to enjoy the sunny and warm weather, these session will take place during the Open Workshop time on Wednesdays evening between 16:30 - 21:00.

It is possible to book 1 - 3 or 5 sessions at the same time, benefit from a discount and decide which technique/session/date suits them best.

This Wednesday 17.08.22 - Dry Point

Drypoint is a printmaking process from the Intaglio family in which a design is drawn on a plate with a sharp, pointed needle-like instrument. It is considered “dry” as the plate does not undergo an etching process that involves the use of acids/mordants, generally liquids.

The process of incising for drypoint creates a slightly raised ragged rough edge to the lines, known as the burr. When ink that has been applied to the plate is wiped off both the incised line and specifically the burr receive ink when the plate is wiped, giving the printed line a distinctive velvety look. Owing to the delicate nature of the burr, drypoint is usually made in small editions, stopping before the burr is crushed by the pressure of the intaglio press.

What will you learn?

In this workshop, you will learn how to make use of readily available repurposed materials for engraving, soft plastic materials (PVC) and recycled Tetra pack. We will also experiment with mark making using inventive tools developing your own visual language. Finally, we will print a collection of prints in combination with the plates we created. This workshop encourages experimentation and opens the door to further means of expression.

*This workshop takes place with a minimum of 3 participants.

** All materials are included (ink, tools, solvents and mordents). PVC plate (A4 or A3) and printmaking paper is to be purchased through the instructor at the workshop (cash only)
